[five times healed] -- featuring Galeon and Lesilfae
The First Time was little more than an accident fueled by a strong wish for things to just 'be okay'. Two young boys, just introduced to one another and sent to play, found themselves standing atop a steep but short ravine. Galeon, the older of the two, pointed a finger down to the bottom, "There was a stream down there once, with little fish swimming in it." He paused looking to the younger boy who eyed the lip of the ravine wearily. "Don't be afraid. It's not that far of a fall."
"I'm not afraid." The other boy snapped, shrugging his sharp, bony shoulders. "But not everyone is happy being covered in dirt."
Ah. Galeon's grey eyes darted away then back. They had little in common, the older boy's every attempt at friendship being waved away -- why did his parents think this was a good idea? Without a word, Galeon spun around, deciding to depart and return to his parents. This wasn't working. It never worked. He was nearly back to the tree line when a yelp split the air behind him followed by the sounds of heavy thumping and pained screams. As quickly as he had turned to leave, he turned back.
Lesilfae was gone as well as the edge of the ravine... right where he'd been standing. The large boy peered over the side and straight down to the bottom where, laying in a crumpled heap, was the younger boy. In that instant, something awoke in him. A need to protect, to fix and to mend. He rushed down the side, earning wounds of his own but did not stop until he was at the other boy's side and, upon reaching it, let his hands envelope the worst of the scratches. Lesilfae's green eyes flickered up to him, golden light coursing very suddenly through them. The same light engulfed Galeon's hands as he wished and willed the wound away.
Within mere moments, a blink of an eye, Lesilfae was up and unhurt. Galeon, however... Well. Magic tends to come at a price.
The Second Time was a short while after the first, a mere month and a half. not too long after the accident that kickstarted their friendship and opened up the world of healing to a young Galeon Hughes. He was now training under a master healer and alchemist, who drew the young boy from Lesilfae's side far too often for the younger boy's liking... but he understood. This was what Galeon was born to do. So, he remained, passively accepting of his friend's stolen time and simply began to cherish what little was left for him.
What was meant to be a day just for them had turned into a day of minor panic and oozing papercuts. Galeon had quickly become overprotective of his friend, often healing any minor bumps and bruises the young noble might gain in his day-to-day life (which were few), and Lesiflae simply let him. Happy to let his friend practice his newfound art on him and his fragile body. This time, it just so happened to be a small papercut he'd gained while practicing his handwriting with his mother. Something he hadn't even noticed but Galeon did. He always did.
"What's that?" Galeon had asked as the two seated themself at Lesilfae's family's dinner table. He reached over to gently take the smaller boy's hand in his, eyeing the fresh but clotted injury. His grey eyes jumped quickly to Lesilfae's own piercing green.
"What's what?"
"That cut on your hand. Did you get hurt today?" Ah... The boy gently pulled his hand free of his friend's grasp to peer at the small cut. A paper cut. It was shallow and didn't seem to have bled much, he's sure if it had he would have noticed.
"Oh, no -- well, I didn't think I had. I guess I didn't notice... it's just a papercut, nothing to worry about, Gale." He assured but Galeon remained firm, eyes zeroed in on the offending 'wound'. He looked unimpressed by Lesilfae's words.
"Are you sure? I'd feel better knowing it won't get infected."
"Well, if you're that worried you can heal it but it really is nothing. You worry too much."
"I don't worry enough, I think." The boys shared a look as Galeon's hands once again enfolded Lesilfae's own. Again, streaks of light illuminated his eyes as Galeon's hands began to glow. It was in this moment, Lesilfae's heart began to beat twice as hard in his chest, watching the older boy care for something so little as if it offended his very nature that his friend was hurt... This must be what true friendship feels like. Right?
The Third Time was as unremarkable as the second time, but as usual, Galeon was steadfast in caring about the little things, or, as he said, "little things that can become big things". The boy had grown into a tall, broad teen who had to stoop from time to time to enter buildings -- something Lesilfae both admired and hated. He couldn't even begin to count the number of times the taller boy had all but cracked his head on a low hanging chandelier or a door frame. Goddess above, the boy was a mess in his new form. Feet too big, legs too long, shoulders too wide...
Lesilfae, however, remained lean and slight. Shorter than the average Fyvar but still tall enough for people to rarely comment on it. He fit easily in doorways and had no issue adjusting to his growing body.
And yet, it was always Galeon who worried over Lesilfae. Every bump, bruise, or scratch was met with thick furrowed brows and a deep-set frown. After this day, maybe he was right to worry?
--
He was unlucky, that's all. Very unlucky.
It only took a slight misstep to send him to the healers in agony, a slight roll of his ankle that led to a loud 'snap' and sudden pain. His father was accompanying him at the time and wasted no time whisking him away to the nearest healer's -- it just so happened to be the one Galeon was working at. The bulky boy (well, //teen//) was working dutifully when the nobles entered. His attention stirred only when Lesilfae's father spoke up, explain to the available healer what had happened.
Lesilfae could see his friend's face fall, his expression turning grave. The two locked eyes from across the room and the boy stood, patient no longer needing tended to, and inserted himself (rudely, might he add) into the conversation. "What happened? Here, let me--"
His intrusion earned him a sharp wallop to the back of his head with a rolled-up scroll. The healer that Lesilfae's father had been speaking to appearing very cross, "Have you no manners?" they sniffed, attention turning back to the nobles. But, to the surprise of everyone, his father began to tell Galeon what had befallen the pained boy. A knowing look in his green eyes.
It took no time for Galeon to take the boy's ankle in hand and to summon the warm soothing magic that only he could manifest. Once more, Lesilfae's heart erupted into delicate flutters and once more, he was healed by his friend. Friend...
"Galeon..." Lesilfae began, "My heart keeps fluttering..." He was unlucky. Very unlucky.
The Fourth Time was in battle. A battle that Lesilfae had no place in being part of -- but he couldn't abandon his friend nor the odd being his friend had taken responsibility of. Call it a sick sense of loyalty, but the merchant felt responsible for the 'stranger' too (at least to some degree), so perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that he took a blow destined for the strange being. Their mouth falling open to scream as Lesilfae's body hit the ground.
Or, well, it was supposed to be the ground. He found himself, instead, cradled in strong arms as the battle raged on around him. He was pulled, safely into a warm chest and heaved upwards. Galeon. The boy, no... man, he's a man now, murmuring something into his lavender hair. His vision began to flicker, his consciousness slowing into nothing, but he could see, there leaning over him, his friend. Tears gathering in his beautiful grey eyes and sliding down the sharp curves of his face. Galeon. Galeon.
He wasn't ready to die. Goddess, he had so much to do. To say.
with the familiar golden glow overtaking him, he reaches out to trace the lines of his friend's face. "I love you..."
The Fifth Time was mere days after his near-death experience. He was laid up in bed, forbidden from leaving it, and stuck listening to Hollond trying to explain something to him. It was a bit beyond him, however, as the Yven huffed to themself and muttered something. Something about... Galeon? The blonde soon left, taking with them the little bit of warmth in the room -- but luck was on his side today as they were quickly replaced by Galeon.
The hulking man lingering in the doorway for a moment before settling at his bedside. The silence was heavy and deafening. The man, his friend, his... crush? looking over him with tired grey eyes. He looked as if he hadn't been sleeping, something that wasn't new, but still worrying.
"Lesilfae." The giant began, eyes darting to the doorway where two blue eyes narrowed sharply then disappeared. "I think I know how to cure your heart flutters... or, at least, well..." His eyes drag back to the injured man. He looked so much smaller beneath those thin covers, so much more hurt.
Lesilfae raised an eyebrow, "Gale..."
The green haired man took a deep breath, leaned forward until his lips just barely brushed his friend's ear and whispered, "I love you too." And just like that, the fluttering soothed.
